Weather hampered the search for an aircraft that lost contact with the ground shortly before approach at Westchester County Airport. The Airplane missing is found to be crashed.
A small single-engine plane crashed in the northern suburbs of New York City Thursday — killing both people on board, officials said.
The Beechcraft A36, which holds up to six passengers, went down around 6:15 p.m. after the pilot reported engine trouble about one mile from Westchester County Airport in White Plains, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The plane was found hours later in the trees as rescuers were searching near the Kensico Reservoir, according to Westchester County officials.
Both passengers were found dead inside the wreckage. Their identities have not yet been released.

According to the FAA, the single-engine Beechcraft A36 was about 1 mile away from Westchester County Airport in White Plains when the pilot reported engine problems, telling the tower he was low on oil pressure.
There were two people — the pilot and a passenger — on board the plane when it went down, sources told NBC New York. After searching the heavily wooded area for hours, county officials confirmed that the plane had been located, with the two people inside.
The pilot and passenger both died in the crash, county officials said. The focus of the search was near the northern tip of Rye Lake, on Cooley Hill Road in Armonk. The plane was found in trees near the airport.
The tail number for the aircraft traces back to T&G Flying Club in Ohio. The identities of the victims had not yet been released.
It was not immediately clear what caused the crash. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide any updates.
Shortly afterwards, the tower lost radio contact with the plane.
Search and rescues crews spent the evening focused on an area near Conney Hill Road in Armonk.
County officials said the plane was found late Thursday night in trees near Rye Lake.
Both people on board the plane were found dead.
